Al-Shat and Al-Tirsana Share Eight Goals With Victory for Away Team
The one thing that made one stand up and notice in the four matches played Monday evening in the Libyan football league was the high-scoring result in the clash between Al-Shat and Al-Tirsana in which eight goals were scored, with the away team, newly promoted Al-Tirsana winning 5-3.

Al-Ittihad Scrape Through to Retain two-point Lead
League leaders and defending champions Al-Ittihad once again retained their two-point lead at the top of the league standings two points ahead of Al-Ahli when they just scraped through their away game at Khaleej Sirt by winning with a goal scored after two minutes.

Al-Ahli (Benghazi), Alakhdar Drift Further Away
Al-Ahli of Benghazi and Alakhdar, sitting third and fourth in the table, failed to make any impact on the two leading teams on completion of the 18th day of the football league. Both dropped points in drawn matches and continued to drift away from any challenge.

Defending champions Drop Unexpected Home Points
Defending champions Al-Ittihad were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at home by mid-table team Al-Madina to see their lead at the top cut down to only two points (50-48) from their main rivals Al-Ahli of Tripoli, who were 1-0 away victors at Al-Jazeera.

Egypt won the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, the sixth time they have won the competition thanks to a goal by Mohamed Aboutrika 77 minutes into the final against Cameroon at Accra. Defending champions Egypt have come to within a match of winning their sixth Africa Cup of Nations title after defeating favourites Ivory Coast 4-1 in their semi-final game. Now only four-time champions Cameroon stand in the way after the Indomitable Lions reached the final by beating hosts Ghana 1-0.
