Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - A new opportunity for Arabic bloggers has been developed by the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRinfo) as a means for uncensored content to be published in Arabic. The freedom of speech advocacy organization hopes the Katib blog space will give young Arabs an opportunity to write about their experiences in a mode that has often been cracked down upon by governments in the region.

"We are sponsoring Katib Blogs, as a blog service made available to all young Arabs, and not only for activists," Gamal Eid the executive director of HRinfo, said in a statement published by the organization.

"Katib Blogs are available to all who wish to obtain an Arabic blog, easy to use, not imposing any restrictions on freedom of expression and not exercising content control or censorship. We are eager to provide a blog for each of those who believe that silence is not the best choice," Eid added.

The server, which launched this week, was the culmination of over one and a half years of work. The goal is to create a society of bloggers away from the usual confines that persist in the region, HRinfo says.

"This should be a great thing for the Arabic speaking world as it gives a real server, much like what blogspot did for the English speaking world, to us Arabs," a young blogger told AHN Media Corporation.

The blogger believes that if it gets the notoriety that it deservers, it could become a force in the region against those who try and stem freedom of speech.

"Hopefully, the young people will be galvanized by this work and create blogs to show the world the true meaning of our culture and our corrupt governments," the blogger added.
