Privacy Policy Notice

February 2008 version (view changes)

The Google Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information when you use Google’s products and services, including information provided when you use our Google Voice Local Search (GOOG-411) service. In addition, the following describes our privacy practices that are specific to our GOOG-411 service.

  • If your carrier or phone company sends us your phone number, which happens in most (but not all) cases, we will collect and store the phone number, along with the time and duration of your call and the options you select, each time you use the GOOG-411 service. We use the phone number we collect to operate and audit our service. We may also use your phone number to distinguish you from other users, and ultimately, to personalize the service to you.
  • We also collect and store a copy of the voice commands you make to the service, so we can audit, evaluate, and improve the voice recognition capabilities of the service. We do not link the stored copy of your voice commands with your caller id.
  • To avoid having any information we collect associated with your phone number, you can block caller id before you call. Please note that certain carriers will still send us your phone number even when you block caller id, however in this case Google will not store any information relating to the blocked call. For more information on caller id and caller id blocking, please contact your carrier. You can also delete the information the GOOG-411 service has associated with your phone number in the past by following the steps here.
  • If you decide to connect to a business using our service, we pass along your phone number to that business, unless you block caller id, but we do not share any other personal information with the business you are trying to reach. We stop recording your voice once we connect the call.
  • We operate GOOG-411 using certain third party services. We share with these third parties only the information that is necessary to operate our service.  These third parties will be contractually bound to treat your information in accordance with the applicable Google privacy policies.
