How About the Gay Hatred?
POSTED May 13, 10:01 AM
Sometimes we have to take the good with the bad.

John Hagee, the controversilettal Evangelical pastor who endorsed John McCain, will issue a letter of apology to Catholics today for inflammatory remarks he has made, including accusing the Roman Catholic Church of supporting Adolf Hitler and calling it “The Great Whore.”

“Out of a desire to advance greater unity among Catholics and Evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful,” Hagee wrote, according to an advanced copy of the letter reviewed by Washington Wire. “After engaging in constructive dialogue with Catholic friends and leaders, I now have an improved understanding of the Catholic Church, its relation to the Jewish faith, and the history of anti-Catholicism.” (Link)

This apology was prompted by the outrage caused by Mr. Hagee's repeated comments about the Catholic Church, and Hagee's apology is welcome.  But Pastor Hagee became infamous for another bit of bigotry: his claim that New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina as divine punishment for it's tolerance of homosexuals.

I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are--were recipients of the judgment of God for that. The newspaper carried the story in our local area that was not carried nationally that there was to be a homosexual parade on the Monday that the Katrina came, and the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades. So I believe that the judgment of God is a very real thing. (Link)

Our church is not hard against the gay people. Our church teaches what the Bible teaches, that it is not a righteous lifestyle. But of course we must love even sinners. (Link)

It's telling the pastor felt he only needed to apologize for the anti-Catholic remarks.  It's more telling Senator McCain is not challenging Pastor Hagee to make an apology to gays as well.
