Types of Aid Available to Undergraduates

Grant & Scholarship Programs

Georgetown undergraduates receive millions of dollars each year in grant and scholarship assistance from many different sources, including federal and state agencies, private organizations, and from Georgetown University.   All students are encouraged to look for outside grants and scholarships by using free online scholarship search services.

Student Employment

Students who wish to work part-time during the academic year or full-time during the summer term can obtain employment through the GU Student Employment Office (SEO).

Georgetown participates in the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program. Most GU need-based financial aid packages include expected earnings from employment under this program during the academic year.  Students typically work ten to fifteen hours per week to earn the amounts included in GU aid packages. Hundreds of Work-Study jobs are available on-campus, and there are Work-Study jobs available off-campus in community service organizations.

Georgetown also offers an Employment Referral Service (ERS) for students seeking on and off-campus employment who want to work but are not eligible for need-based Federal Work-Study funding.

Loan Programs

Many Georgetown students meet a portion of their college costs by borrowing through federally-sponsored and/or private student and family loan programs.

The primary source of these loans is the Federal Stafford Loan Program. Some students with exceptional need may be offered a Federal Perkins Loan. When funds permit, eligible nursing students are offered Nursing Student Loans. These loans are low interest and are repaid after the student ceases to be enrolled at least half-time. Any parent of an undergraduate student may apply for a loan under the Federal PLUS Loan program or through one of several educational loan programs offered by private lending institutions.

Other Financing Options

Georgetown University offers a monthly payment plan.  Students may pay all or a portion of their bill in monthly scheduled installments. Further information is available from the Georgetown University Office of Student Accounts.
