The Principal of the Helsinki University of Technology and the Secretary General of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters have issued the Finnish Research and Science collector coin (20.5.2008). This year, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters turns 100 years and the Helsinki University of Technology celebrates 100 years as a university. In honour of this event a bimetallic collector coin has been minted. The Principal of Helsinki University of Technology Matti Pursula and the Secretary General of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters Matti Saarnisto issued the coin at the House of Estates 20th May, 2008. Mint of Finland Ltd was represented at the event by CEO Maarit Aarnio-Sirviö. More
Collector Coin Committee announces: Silver collector coin to be issued in honour of Mika Waltari in the autumn. Reijo Paavilainen’s interpretation “Guardian of the Text” won the design competition. (12.5.2008) This autumn it will be 100 years since the birth of author Mika Waltari. The Collector Coin Committee, authorised by the Ministry of Finance, held an open competition for the design of a collector coin. By the deadline at the end of April, 27 entries had been received, and from these the proposal by Reijo Paavilainen, who has designed a number of Finnish collector coins, was chosen as the best. More

This year, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters as well as Helsinki University of Technology celebrate their 100-year anniversary. In honour of this event a bimetallic collector coin is minted. The Collector Coin Committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the designing of the coin and Tapio Kettunen’s proposal “Läpimurto – vihdoinkin uutta valoa” (“Breakthrough – new light at last”) emerged as the winner. The“Finnish Flag” collector coin was launched at the World Money Fair in Berlin (4.2.2008) Mint of Finland Ltd has on a decree of the Finnish Ministry of Finance minted a 10 euro silver collector coin with the theme “The Finnish flag”. The blue-white cross flag of Finland celebrates its 90-year anniversary this year and is honoured with the minting of a coin, in which colour is used for the first time in a Finnish collector coin. New CEO appointed for Mint of Finland Ltd (24.1.2008) M.Sc., MBA Maarit Aarni-Sirviö has been appointed as the President and CEO of Mint of Finland Ltd effect from 1st April, 2008. Aarni-Sirviö has acted in various managerial duties within the Borealis Group, including as the Director of the Fenolit business unit. She is at the moment a member of the Executive Board in the companies Ponsse, Rautaruukki, and Wärtsilä. More
