Repo rate raised to 4.75 per cent
04/09/2008 The Executive Board of the Riksbank has decided to raise the repo rate by 0.25 percentage points to 4.75 per cent. The repo rate is expected to remain at this level during the year. Inflation has continued to rise in Sweden and the rate increase is necessary to prevent the high inflation from becoming entrenched. A higher repo rate will mean that inflation declines and is close to the 2 per cent target within a couple of years.   Read more

THE RIKSBANK
Sveriges Riksbank is Sweden’s central bank and a public authority under the Riksdag, the Swedish parliament.  The Riksbank is responsible for conducting monetary policy, the objective of which is to maintain a low and stable level of inflation. The Bank also has the task of ensuring that payments in the economy can be made safely and efficiently.
How do house prices affect the economy?
Changes in the housing market have only a small effect on inflation and GDP. However, the effects on monetary policy are reinforced by the fact that houses are used as collateral for mortgages.
