The well known Libyan poet Ali Sodqi Abdulqader died at the late hours of Monday 1 September 2008 at the age of 84 at a Tripoli clinic. He died of health complications including lung failure and prostate complications.
According to medical sources at the clinic, the direct cause of death was a heart attack as a result of the failure of both his lungs. He fell at his home on 28 May 2008 and as result was entered the clinic sever pain in his hip. Ali Sodqi Abdulqader was born in Tripoli in 1924. He studied law and practiced law for forty years. He studied at Ahmed Bash College for Religious Education and at Eastern Naples University in Italy.
He was considered to be one of the pioneers along with the late poet Ali Al-Raghai who launched modern poetry in Libya.
His group of poems titled "Dreams of a Revolution" in 1957 marked the new trend of poetry in Libya.
His works have been translated to English, French and Chinese. Ali Sodqi Abdulqader presented his well known show, "A Bunch of Rainbow" until the month of Ramadan of last year.
Many of his works became lyrics of famous Libyan songs, especially "Balad Al-Toyoub", a song about his forever beloved Libya. |
