WE WON!!!

October 3 2007
Last night we only went and WON the award for Best Electronic Music website at the BT Digital Music Awards for our Chemical Brothers website. Shortlisted by a judging panel and then voted for by the public we are well and truly chuffed at getting the vote of confidence in a site that we came up with the concept for, let alone developed. As I said in my completely unplanned acceptance speech (to be seen on channel4 saturday night!!), thanks to all who voted for us, and Tom and Ed who let us do it. More to the point - well done everyone here for working so hard on the site. Thanks!

1 month to go until involve launch

October 1 2007
Yes - that's right, we are officially launching involve our front-end editing product for TYPO3. We demonstrated it in January to an eager bunch of developers at the TYPO3 Snowboard tour in France, and since then we have just been polishing it ready for the world to use. Based on 3 icons, edit, hide and delete, involve makes editing a website an absolute doddle. 3 years in development, we can't quite believe that we're now ready to release it - and quite simply it's beautiful! We're going to be putting lots more up about involve over the next few weeks so watch this space!

Facebook App development

September 30 2007
We came up with an idea for a Facebook application to launch the Chemical Brothers single The Salmon Dance. Using elements from the video we have developed a viral campaign on facebook that has been listed on the "Recently popular" apps page. Attracting over 8,000 regular users in 5 days this app certainly seems to be working! Over 30,000 people have been "Added" to the application, to understand what it's all about you really have to get it - so go on to facebook and get it!

Keeping it local

Law firm choose 3ev

September 11 2007
Following a competitive pitch, Law firm Dawson Hart decided that we were the ones who should develop their brand new website. Developed using involve Dawson Hart are going to find it really easy to keep their brand spanking new website up to date with all their latest news. We are also developing the site with the help of our Asset Manager. Assets can be defined as case studies, news stories, downloads (leaflets) and even personnel. What happens with traditional websites is that all pages have to be populated with content manually, meaning that when a news story (for instance) is added to the site, it may need to be linked to from up to 4 separate places on the site. Due to the large number of assets and their multiple appearances throughout the site, this process is laborious at best, and at worst, results in parts of the site not being updated when they should be. Working with a large amount of assets and references to them results in a laborious and timely updating process. Our asset manager categorises all case studies, news stories and downloads so that they automatically appear in the correct parts of the site. A user uploads an asset, and attributes a client, project, and date to it, defines whether it is to appear on the homepage, or to be featured on the site, and it will automatically appear on the correct pages. This ensures that all assets appear in all of the correct places as soon as they are added to the site, it also means that uploading assets is a quick and simple process, and intuitive enough to be performed by any member of staff without the requirement for specialized training.

Chemical Brothers site launched

May 2 2007
3ev and the Chemical Brothers set a new benchmark for music websites with thechemicalbrothers.com.

Integrating a mashup of Flickr and YouTube content with complete access to the band’s entire output over the past 15 years, the site provides an unparalleled opportunity for user-involvement.

May 2007. 3rd Eye Vision (3ev), Brighton, UK, launch a new website for The Chemical Brothers. Commissioned by Virgin Records, 3ev worked with the Chemical Brothers to create a website that redefines user engagement. In addition to the Google-powered tour map mash-up, the site encourages users to help build the band’s history through the stunning psychedelic journey that is the “Chronicles” section of the site.

"Tagcasting"
The site publishes a unique tag for each gig of the 2007 tour meaning fans can upload their own content via Flickr and Youtube – then the site can pull it in.

"Now they can see footage and pictures of our gigs -even if they couldn't make it there in person - it builds up a real buzz"
- Tom Rowlands - The Chemical Brothers

As anyone who has witnessed The Chemical Brothers live will vouch, their shows are spectacular, similarly, their videos groundbreaking -3ev were given access to it all. To display such exceptional elements in a linear fashion would have been an injustice –thus the concept behind the chronicles was born. From a single point of entry users float downstream through the band’s prolific history - watching any videos, listening to whichever tracks, and what's more, they can relive gigs as their own content from Flickr and Youtube is integrated- now fans build up the band’s history too.

Now anyone can share their Chemical Brothers footage on the bands official website.

“The central concept we arrived at was to give the fans as much as we could get away with and let them contribute to the site as much as possible”
– Tim Carr, MD 3ev

Virgin Records provided a dedicated digital support team and unlimited assistance in compiling the history of the band. The “access-all-areas” attitude of Virgin Records in helping us develop the site is central the project’s success.

The site demonstrates best use of web 2.0 technologies by offering users something that is genuinely engaging to all. Aesthetically the site steers clear of the usual web 2.0 fashions – providing a usable platform with which to explore. In a nutshell the new Chems website represents Web 2.0 coming of age.

The band’s involvement in planning this site has meant that they now have a site which can be genuinely useful to them and through which they can communicate with their fans as often and as easily as they like – 3ev have provided the Chemical brothers with a dedicated text message service – incoming SMS messages from the band are displayed on the site instantly. What easier way can there be for a band to stay in touch?

"We needed a fresh feel to our site, we needed to bring a whole new level of information, audio, access, involvement and excitement to our site! 3ev have risen to the challenge to bring something new to the party and delivered with big bells on …nice one, sorted!"

- Tom Rowlands - The Chemical Brothers

Preview of involve 2

January 22 2007
Involve was originally conceived as a way of enabling people to manage their website in a simple and intuitive environment. Both the German Pharmaceutical company Anzag and the UK Conservative Party benefited from the 2006 improvements to involve. This latest release demonstrates a complete rethinking of the way in which users edit their website - "By leveraging our AJAX expertise, we have been able to offer an entirely in page using 3 common functions" says 3ev's Tim Carr.

As you may have heard, the mutterings of a new release of involve are getting ever-louder. To get a sneak peak you can view the screencast here or download the Involve Press Release. We will be holding a launch of version 2 at 6pm on January 30th at The Hotel Soleil Or in Les Deux Alpes, France. Registration for this event is now closed.

New client: The Conservative Party

May 9 2006
We are developing six new websites for the Conservative Party. The sites address the "challenges" faced by the conservative party and demonstrate the policies which address them. On top of our hefty workload for April, these websites were something of a challenge for us too, still- we managed a speedy turnaround to meet their delivery date of 26th and even recieved an email from the party chairman in appreciation. The websites are created unsing our involve product and allow policy makers to turn features such as blogs , polls and forums on and off without any training through the intuitive interface. When all sites are up, (by the end of May) we'll write a case study, in the meantime, you can read about involve.
