How do I get my event to appear on the Week Ahead e-mail newsletter?

All "Upcoming conferences and events" on the Week Ahead e-mail newsletter are pulled from GovExec.com's online calendar. If you have submitted an event to the calendar, it may appear in the Week Ahead. However, since the Week Ahead events are upcoming (three-four weeks in advance of when the e-mail goes out), events that take place within a few days of when they are published on the calendar may not make it in to the e-mail. Therefore, it's best to put your events online early!

I work at GSA and I can't read your e-mail newsletters. Why not?

Some GSA users have an older version of Lotus Notes that does not allow users to receive HTML mail. Until everyone is switched to the new version, you can view our stories online at www.govexec.com, and our "More News" page lists all the stories we've written for the last three months, organized by day: http://www.govexec.com/news/more_news.html.

In addition, we have created a Web version of the various e-mail newsletters.

You can find "GovExec.com Today" at
http://www.govexec.com/email/daily.htm.

You can find "The Management Agenda" at http://www.govexec.com/email/management.htm.

You can find "Homeland Security Week" at http://www.govexec.com/homeland/email.htm.

You can find "National Defense Week" at http://www.govexec.com/email/defense.htm.

We do not currently have the resources to send two different versions of our e-mail newsletters for users who cannot support HTML. We are working on developing this capability.

Why am I getting duplicate e-mail newsletters?

You are probably receiving duplicates of our e-mail newsletters because you are subscribed with two different e-mail addresses that are routed to the same destination. For example you may be subscribed as JDoe@govexec.com and JohnDoe@govexec.com. Or it might be something like this: JDoe@govexec.com and JDoe@mail.govexec.com.

At the very bottom of our e-mail newsletters there is a line that reads:
This message was sent from GovExec.com to address your.name@your.domain.com

So, here are the simple guidelines. If this line in the duplicate newsletters specifies different addresses, then point your browser to http://www.govexec.com/email/#2 and enter the unwanted e-mail address in the text field and click on the "Remove From All" button.

If you are also a print magazine subscriber it would be a good idea to keep the same e-mail address that you have in your profile at http://www.omeda.com/custsrv/ge/.

If duplicate email newsletters are being sent to the same exact address, send an e-mail to webmaster@govexec.com with the full internet headers from both copies, so we can investigate the situation and resolve the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Table of Content links in the e-mail newsletters don't work for me. Why not?

Many of you have e-mailed GovExec.com to let us know that links from the Table of Contents in GovExec.com Today do not "jump" you down to the story you want. After some research, we've discovered that the function does not work in Lotus Notes. According to a Lotus developer, "that's one of the things that doesn't make it through the translation very well." Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the next major release of Notes. In the meantime, you can still access our stories by clicking on the external links (the ones that start with http://www.govexec.com/). In addition, our "More News" page lists all the stories we've written for the last three months, organized by day: http://www.govexec.com/news/more_news.html

I have suddenly stopped getting your e-mail newsletters and I didn't unsubscribe. Why?

Often when this happens, the problem is that your organization's mail server is blocking the domain that our e-mail is sent through. We use the O-mail system to send our e-mail newsletters. If your organization has blocked any incoming e-mail from domain govexec-media.com, you will not receive any e-mail from us. Please contact your network administrator about these domains.

How to subscribe/unsubscribe to The Week Ahead e-mail newsletter?

However, if you unsubscribed from The Week Ahead e-mail newsletter by accident and want to receive this newsletter you need to send an email to ge@omeda.com stating that you want to receive The Week Ahead e-mail newsletter from GovExec.com.

What is your privacy policy for your e-mail newsletters?

Government Executive does not sell its e-mail list to any third parties, nor do we "swap" lists with other organizations. You will not begin receiving "spam" from third party groups as a result of your being a subscriber to GovExec.com e-mail newsletters. Occasionally we do send out information to our subscribers on internal promotions. Since our promotions and conferences often deal with many of the same topics on GovExec.com, we find that most of our subscribers are pleased to learn about them. For many people, it is the only way they learn about them as they do not subscribe to the print magazine. But to ensure we do not wear out our welcome, we try to use the medium only with the most important promotions from the magazine.

How do you format your e-mail newsletter?

Our e-mail newsletters are formatted as HTML mail. The "jump down" links are made using HTML code for "anchors."

Unlike the C, S and I funds, the F Fund's returns are not available on a daily basis, nor are the returns of the Lehman Brothers U.S. Aggregate (LBA) bond index fund. Can I put the TSP Ticker on my site?

While we're thrilled when people link to our site and the ticker, we still want it to remain exclusively on GovExec.com.

The TSP Ticker is a very important information source for our readers and thus a key driver of traffic to the home page of GovExec.com. As such, we believe it's important to protect the proprietary nature of the TSP Ticker.

Does a bill to buy out all CSRS employees exist?

Rumors abound about a bill that would offer buyouts to all employees in the Civil Service Retirement System. The bill most often cited is HR 28344. This is an old hoax and no such bill exists. The faux bill is allegedly sponsored by two members of Congress who don't exist ("Bill Chavez D-N.M." and "Lynn Faust D-Calif.")
