Jingsong Huang, a student in the Kertesz group, has received the 2005 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad. Granted to students across all fields of study, the award was presented to only fifty-four Chinese students in the United States, eight of whom were chemists. The award, including a certificate and a check, was presented in Washington D.C. by Zhou Wenzhong , Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, on April 28, 2006.

Jingsong's accomplishments in the materials chemistry area focus on developing a fundamental understanding of electronic properties of organic conductors. Jingsong has been able to interpret a number of their properties providing a coherent picture that will help and guide experimentalists to perfect the material properties of these promising compounds, and he has published several original articles on his work at Georgetown including three in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and others in leading physical chemistry journals.
