Labour Cost Index (AKI) up 4.1 percent for wage-earners and 3.9 percent for salaried employees

The Labour Cost Index for the private sector in August 2008 was 163.3 for wage-earners and 184.3 for salaried employees. Compared to August 2007, labour costs have increased by 4.1 percent for wage-earners and by 3.9 percent for salaried employees.

Retail Sales, September 2008

Turnover in total retail trade in September 2008 showed a decrease of 0.6 percent compared with September 2007.

Exports increased by 9 percent

In September 2008, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 105.1 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 94.5 billion. As a result, the net trade surplus was SEK 10.6 billion.

Rise in short-term lending rates in September

Monetary Financial Institutions (MFI) raised their lending rates for new loans to households in September 2008. The average rate for households' new loans in September was 6.19 percent, which can be compared to 5.95 percent in August. The short-term rates contributed most to the rise.

Record increase
of households' income

Households' disposable income increased by 7 percent last year. This is the largest increase since measurements began in 1975. The trend has been increasing since 1995. At the same time, the gap between the low and high incomes has never been greater.

Large enterprises predict dark future

The economy of large Swedish enterprises has weakened considerably since the spring. Development has been worse than expected and the picture is much more mixed than previously. Some industries still enjoy an economic boom, but the situation for most industries is more normal or less than normal. Judging from the forecasts of enterprises, the downturn appears to continue into the spring. Decreased Swedish import prices in September

From August to September Swedish import prices declined 0.4 percent. The producer prices increased 0.2 percent on average and the export prices increased 0.5 percent. Producer prices on the domestic market fell 0.1 percent.

Large investments in American portfolio assets

The total value in Swedish security assets abroad amounted to SEK 3 143 billion at the end of 2007. Swedes have increased holdings of foreign interest bearing securities as well as foreign shares.
