The Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina (Colombia) is located in the southwestern Caribbean, off the coast of Central America. For its size (250 thousand km2) is the country's largest department (equivalent to one fifth of the Colombian mainland) and occupies about 10% of the total area of the Caribbean.

By its natural characteristics, their biological richness and traditions of their ancestral population, UNESCO declared it a Seaflower Biosphere Reserve in November 2000. The joint efforts of the community and its institutions have helped advance the goals of recovery, conservation and nature protection, as well as the adoption of a collective attitude more friendly to the environment.

This is one of the country's major tourist destinations in the Caribbean and Central American area, with packages ranging from the Sun and beach tourism to ecotourism and etnotourism. Welcome!

What makes it special?

  • Have the largest coral barriers in Colombia. The Providence is one of the largest in the western hemisphere.

  • Concentrates the 78% of coral areas of the country.

  • More than 85 species of hard and soft corals, and 100 species of sponges.

  • More than 270 species of fish and 4 sea turtles.

  • More than 40 beaches, some almost virgin, and the majority of white coral sand.

  • More than 100 species of migratory birds between residents and endemic.

  • There are numerous cays and islets, reefs, surrounded by water and warm, most rarely visited.

  • Several well preserved mangrove forests inhabited by numerous species of crabs, lizards, fish, birds ...

  • Vast grasslands of sea grasses are preferred site of snails, urchins, starfish, fish and many other species.

  • In its forests and patches of vegetation grows about 400 species of tropical flora.

  • A native population ancestral developed a culture of its own, a mixture of African and European traditions, which dates from the seventeenth century.
