Prof. Adnan Badran
Prof. Adnan Badran FIAS is an elected Fellow of the Islamic Academy of
Sciences (1989). He is married with several children.
Prof. Badran is the former Deputy Director General of the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) (1993-1998), and
Assistant Director General for Science, UNESCO, Paris, France (1990-1993).
At present, he is president of Philadelphia University, Jordan.
Formerly, Prof. Badran has served as Minister of Agriculture and Minister of
Education in the Government of Jordan as well as Secretary General of
Jordan’s Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST).
A professor for over thirty-five years, Prof. Badran is a past President of
Yarmouk University (1976-1986), Irbid, Jordan, and past Dean of the Faculty
of Science at the University of Jordan (1971-1976).
Prof. Badran obtained his BSc from Oklahoma State University (1959), MSc
from Michigan State University (1961) and his PhD from Michigan State
University (1963). He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of
Sung Kyuakwan University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Prof. Badran is the author/editor of more than 18 books and 90 research
papers in the field of Biology, Economic Development, Education and
International Co-operation.
Prof. Badran is the Secretary General and Fellow of the Third World Academy
of Sciences (TWAS), Member of the Institute of Biological Sciences and
Member of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS)
since 1993. He is a member of the Arab Thought Forum (1978-present) and
Member of the World Affairs Council (1980-present).
The academic and educational achievements of Prof. Adnan Badran have been
internationally recognised culminating in the Jordanian Al-Nahda and Al-Yarmouk
Medals, the Istiklal (Independence) Medal of Jordan (1995), and the Alfonso
X Medal of Spain.
Prof. Adnan Badran was elected Treasurer (Council Member) of the Islamic
Academy of Sciences in 1999, and 2003.
