In September 2008, the credit crisis accelerated as many major financial institutions such as Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch & Co. faltered. The distressed economy created thousands of job cuts throughout the country, including in Massachusetts.
Things may get worse before they get better. Layoffs in the Bay Statehave continued into December as companies look to cut costs before the end of the year to deal with the economic crisis.
Here is a list of some of the Massachusetts employers that have announced major layoffs – 50 jobs or more in a single layoff – since late August.
