Spb Releases Weather 2.0

Thursday January 15, 2009

Spb released a major update for Spb Weather, a weather application for Windows Mobile touch screen phones. Spb Weather 2.0 provides weather forecasts by Foreca, the trusted weather source of MSN.com. The program also supports forecasts from US National Weather Service and Gismeteo. Users also have the flexibility to create and use custom weather source templates. In addition, this application can quote current outside weather conditions, has an expanded city database, and uses a 3D globe with animated weather forecasts over a real satellite image of the sky.

Main features in Spb Weather 2.0 include: detailed weather forecasts from trusted sources, the ability to download weather forecasts for your favorite cities worldwide, the ability to see weather forecasts on a 3D globe, weather animation movies like on TV, a weather forecast Today plug-in, and the ability to enable weather forecast in other popular programs.

You can download a free, 15-day trial of Spb Weather 2.0 from the company’s website. The full version of the software sells for $19.95. Users with a previous version of the software can upgrade for $9.95. Users who have purchased within the last 90 days are entitled to an upgrade for no charge, and users of Spb Traveler 2.x are also eligible for a free version of Spb Weather 2.0.

Marvell Introduces 1GHz Processor for Mobile Devices

Wednesday January 14, 2009

At CES, Marvell introduced a 1GHz processor designed specifically for mobile devices. The company mentions connected digital photo frames, portable navigation devices, portable media players, automotive dashboard displays and infotainment systems, home automation, portable TVs, digital signage, and other devices that utilize Internet connectivity, media processing, and touch screen interfaces as ideal candidates to incorporate the Marvell PXA168 processor. Although there’s no specific mention of PDAs, we think that this processor would be a great addition to our favorite handhelds as well.

The processor has a new architecture that delivers the processing capabilities of an entry-level laptop to instant-on devices. It also enables full-featured Web surfing, multi-format video, and much more. Best of all, it requires little power, which we all know is crucial to mobile devices. The Marvell PXA168 platform supports Linux and Microsoft Windows CE operating systems.

Find out more about the processor here.

Palm Introduces webOS

Monday January 12, 2009

At last week's press event, Ed Colligan, Palm president and CEO, introduced Palm’s long-awaited operating system. Called webOS, this new OS was built from the ground up to focus on Web connectivity. This new platform introduces Palm Synergy, which will bring your information from the places it resides into a single view. As a result, you’ll experience linked contacts, layered calendars, combined messaging, and more. The platform also lets you run multiple applications at the same time for true multitasking functionality.

Initially, the new OS will debut on a new Pre smartphone in the first half of this year. We’re hoping it will come to PDAs eventually as well, though we’ve received no official word either way. Stay tuned as we keep you updated on the latest news from Palm.
