Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Seattle Center

On Monday, January 19, 2009 from noon - 5:00 p.m. Seattle Center will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Center House Theatre. The event is free for all and celebration highlights include: the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award given to several youth/youth organizations in the Puget Sound region that have carried the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The MLK Mass Choir will perform. And the Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas will stage a reading from several of Dr. King's famous speeches.

12:00 p.m.- Performance by DaNell Daymon and Royalty Choir
1:00 p.m. - Invocation by Elvin Gladney, Senior Pastor at the Real Life/International Church and Ministry Center
1:10 p.m. - Welcome by Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams
1:15 p.m. - Performance by the Eritrean-American trio, EriAm Sisters
1:30 p.m. - Presentation of the MLK Peace Awards
2:30 p.m. - Dramatic Reading of Excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speeches
3:30 p.m. - MLK Mass Choir, directed by Elias Bullock

Bellevue's Parlor Collection Offers Live Comedy & More

The Parlor Collection in downtown Bellevue brings Vegas-style fun to Puget Sound visitors and residents. This month they are launching a high profile comedy series along with Karaoke on Mondays and Tuesdays, Dueling Pianos on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as DJ Events, Billiards, and more.

Seattle Symphony Free Concerts & Ewa Podleś Concert Cancellation

The Seattle Symphony Orchestra will perform its free community concerts on January 21 and January 23. These performances are part of Seattle Symphony’s ACCESS Project. The idea behind the program is to bringing classical music to underserved communities throughout the region.

Schedule of Free Public Performances:

Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, 104 17th Ave. S.

Friday, January 23, at 12 p.m. at City Hall, 600 Fourth Ave.

Cancellation Information for January 28 Symphony Ticket Holders:
The concert “Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky: Songs of Love and Death” on January 28 has been cancelled due to an illness in contralto Ewa Podleś family.

The Seatle Symphony is prepared to offer ticket holders to this event the following:

1. Exchange tickets for another concert
2. Donate tickets back to the Seattle Symphony and receive a donation receipt
3. Receive a refund on the ticket purchase price

You can exchange tickets online at the Seattle Symphony or call the ticket office at 206-215-4747 or toll-free at 866-833-4747 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Free Inauguration Celebration at the Paramount

The Seattle Theatre Group (STG) is opening the doors to the historic Paramount Theatre on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. for the public to enjoy a free event celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States.

They will have the live broadcast of the inauguration ceremony on the big screen, with concessions for sale in the lobby from Tom Douglas Catering & Events. Grab an "Obama-Mama" cocktail and be among the millions to watch Obama be sworn into office.
