Can You Grow Mustaches for Charity?

Wednesday December 3, 2008

Of course you can!

Maybe triathlons aren't your thing. Maybe a 5K Run/Walk is just a bit too much exercise. If so, no worries, you can still do charity work and help those in need. All you have to do is spend a month growing one sweet mustache.

Mustaches for Kids was founded right here in LA back in 1999. Over the years hundreds of stalwart stache bearers have braved facial hair mockery to raise over $150,000 for charity. Organizations that have benefited from these magnificent mustaches include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children's Hospital of New Orleans and San Francisco's Legal Services for Children.

Each year, the Mustache Growing season runs from Thanksgiving and Christmas. That means it's not too late to get started right now. Stashe Bash 2008 will be held December 17th at the M Bar. So if you want to grow a sweet stashe and help others at the same time, contact Mustaches for Kids and get the growing started.

Signs of Protest - Prop 8 Protest March

Tuesday November 18, 2008

Last Saturday, over ten thousand protesters hit the streets of Downtown LA, protesting the passage of California's controversial Prop 8. Amid the rolling tide of chants, cheers and speeches, the thing that caught my eye the most were the thousands of signs carried by the protesters. They are designed to catch the eye and in a glance spell out the message the maker wishes the world to hear. Whether that message has its intended effect, most likely depends on the point of view of the observer.

Take a look at the march, the people, and the signs they carried in the Signs of Protest Gallery.
