Teachers of English
CLED provides opportunities for professional development for teachers of English as a Foreign Language. For experienced teachers seeking new challenges in unfamiliar environments, we offer the English Language Fellows Program. For teachers new to English as a Foreign Language, we offer the Teaching EFL (TEFL) certificate program.
The English Language Fellows Program places teachers with postgraduate degrees in TEFL/TESL, Applied Linguistics, or related fields to work on U.S. Embassy projects around the world. The Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and is administered by Georgetown’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED). CLED is actively involved in the screening, selection and nomination processes, as well as the pre-departure preparation.
The Teaching EFL (TEFL) Certificate Program is designed for individuals seeking to gain a grounding in EFL teaching methodology as well as learn from supervised teaching practice. This program is the latest offered by our Center which has extensive experience in the field. Our faculty has trained teachers from countries including Korea, Japan, Lebanon, Colombia, Panama, and of course, here in the U.S.

2009 TEFL Program
6 months
- Online: January 5 – May 15, 2009
- Practicum at GU: May 18-22, Jun 1–5, Jun 8–12, OR Jun 15-19, 2009
Tuition and fees: $3,700 (including $100 non-refundable application fee) due at time of application
10% tuition discount for Georgetown University graduates and employees.
Other costs:
- Textbooks: $150 (estimated)
- Medical Insurance: $39 (non-U.S. applicants only)
- Cost of housing, meals and personal expenses during the practicum: $700 (estimated)
