THE Libyan Olympic is seriously considering bidding to host the 18th edition of the Mediterranean Games in 2017, the multi-sport games held every four years for athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean basin where Africa, Asia and Europe meet.

Senegal and Zambia shared the spoils in a drab scoreless draw in the African Nations Championship in Abidjan that left the teams sharing Group A leadership of Group A with four points and with Zambia enjoying a better goal-difference from two matches.

Hosts and pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast slumped to a shock 3-0 defeat to Zambia in front of a capacity crowd of 35,000 at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan Sunday as the start of the first African Nations Championship got off to a dramatic start.

Libya Wrap Up CHAN Preparation With Win Over Senegal
LIBYA wrapped up its preparation for the first edition of the African Nation Championship (CHAN) to be held in the Ivory Coast from tomorrow, Sunday February 22 until March 8 with a warm up friendly against Senegal at Misratha Wednesday, and won by 1-0.

CAF Champions League: Al-Ahli Tripoli Qualify Confortably Despite Away Loss
TRIPOLI side Al-Ahli moved comfortably into the first round proper of the CAF Champions League where they will meet Young Africans of Tanzania by virtue of a 7-2 aggregate victory over AS Police of Niger. Al-Ahli lost the return tie 1-2 but in the first leg they had thrashed these same opponents to the tune of 6-0.

CAF Confederation Cup: Penalty Shoot-out Quaifies Benghazi's Al-Ahli; Easy for Khaleej Sirt
In the Confederation Cup, as expected, both Libyan representatives, Al-Ahli of Benghazi and Khaleej Sirt qualified to the first round proper. However, Al-Ahli were a disappointment. They lost their preliminary round home match against their Sudanese opponents, and only managed to get through after a penalty shoot-out, 3-2.

Libya Loses by the Odd Goal in Thriller Against Uruguay
In a keenly contested very exciting and entertaining friendly international against Uruguay at the June 11 Stadium in Tripoli that for Libya served a warm-up tie in view of this month’s African Championship of Nations CHAN, Libya were edged out 2-3 by Uruguay who enjoyed more of the play but had to work really hard for victory.

Libya Loses Two Places - to 80th - in FIFA Ranking
Libya lost two places in the FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking list since last month, but only because it was not involved in any international matches during that time. Libya is now ranked 8oth (from 78 last month) amongst the international football body’s 201 member nations.

Al-Tirsana Hold Al-Ahli Tripoli to Deny Them Sole Command
The race for the League title is now really on. After Al-Ahli’s failure to win their away tie at Al-Tirsana on the last day of the first round of the championship, the Tripoli side thus allowed defending champions Al-Ittihad the share the top position in the standings half way through the campaign.

Libya to Host 2009 FIBA Africa Championship August
LIBYA is to host this year’s FIBA Africa Basketball Championship for national basketball teams in a tournament to be held August 5-25. The was decided by the international federation’s Executive Committee, approved by the Central Board of FIBA Africa, and officially announced in Tripoli Wednesday.

Egypt’s Al-Ahli Crowned Overall Kings of African Club Football After Win in Super Cup
Angolan striker Flavio Amado (pictured) ensured victory for Al-Ahli of Egypt over Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien by scoring the CAF club champions, goals in their 2-1 win at the Cairo International Stadium Friday.
