Inauguration Day at the Spy Museum

Thursday January 15, 2009
The International Spy Museum in Washington, DC.

Inauguration Day means lots of inauguration themed packages and The International Spy Museum has created a special Inauguration Day 2009 package in this very tradition. Visitors are encouraged to warm-up with the Hospitality Package available in Spy Café or celebrate the New Year and new administration with the $20.09 Combined Admission Ticket. A special $44 Family 4 Pack of tickets to the Museum’s permanent exhibition is also available.

The Museum is keeping its doors open longer to accommodate the anticipated high volume of visitation during Inauguration 2009. All guests will have more time to explore hundreds of authentic tools of the spy trade; test their spy skills; discover the true stories behind espionage actions that have affected world events throughout history; and uncover the identities of some of the men and women involved in these clandestine missions.

Inauguration Day festivities, including the swearing-in ceremony and parade, will be shown on screens at select locations throughout the complex, including the Spy City Café.

Inauguration Day Forecast: Baby It's Cold Outside

Thursday January 15, 2009
Capitol Dome Inside. Courtesy of Destination DC.

Inauguration Day is going to be cold---really cold, like wear your long underwear, long pants, multiple layers and artic jacket, gloves and hat cold. Dress warmly. Also, remember that many congressional offices will be hosting "open house" where their offices will be serving coffee, hot cocoa and donuts. Be sure to check and see if your Congressional Member is doing so. This is a great way to warm-up in between the swearing-in and the parade.

But this is not the coldest inauguration in US history. In fact Ronald Reagan's second inauguration in 1985 that set the record for the coldest inauguration when tempatures hit 7 degrees and the wind chill was between minus 10 degrees and minus 20 degrees. The ceremony was moved indoors and to the Rotunda. Reagan's first inauguration was also the warmest January inauguration on the books, a balmy 55 degrees!

Obama's Inaugural Committee to Disappoint Young Kids

Wednesday January 14, 2009

President-elect Obama's Inaugural Committee is not making the Kids Inaugural Concert accessible to the general public. So much for an inclusive inauguration that Obama mentioned in his public remarks. If there is one event where tickets should be made available to the general public, it is one involving kids and their favorite entertainers. Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato will be playing the Verizon Center on Monday evening, but while Malia and Sasha will be viewing it live, the closest your kids will get to it will be by watching it on television. The show will air on the Disney Channel (8:00 - 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, Monday, January 19).
