The UK's Biggest Temporary Ice Rink Opens in Leeds

IceCube 2009, 1,200 square meters of real ice in Leeds Millennium Square, opens tomorrow and will extend the festive winter season right into the spring, closing on March 8.

To keep the fun accessible for all ages and abilities, Ice Cube will have a nursery rink, "penguin" skating aids for little beginners and a team of fit and good looking "Ice Marshals" for grownup beginners. There's even a heated, rink-side cafe for warming up after.

Tickets cost £6 for children up to £8 for adults, with family tickets and concessionary prices available.

Liverpool's "Only a Game?" Exhibition extended by Popular Demand

Call it football or soccer, Europe’s love affair with the beautiful game is undeniable and passionate. And that passion will be explored in an entertaining new UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) exhibition at World Museum Liverpool.

The popular Only a Game? exhibition has now been extended to April 29 by popular demand. It's al look at the human face of football in Europe - from the classic era of the 1950’s to the modern age of global superstars. Included are rare objects from legendary matches, top European trophies and memorabilia from star players.

Highlights of the exhibition include:

  • Player memorabilia - shirts, medals and trophies of great European players
  • UEFA trophies, including the Champions League trophy and UEFA Cup
  • A Memory Zone where visitors can mix their own football highlights into a video clip and set it to a soundtrack
  • An interactive multimedia football quiz
The World Museum Liverpool, on William Brown Street, is open, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and admission is free.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London is planning for romance in 2009. The new season, Young Hearts, celebrates Shakespeare's view of first love, young love and early love. The season opens with Romeo & Juliet on April 23 - Shakespeare's birthday, followed by As You Like It, Troilus & Cressida and Love's Labours Lost.
Priority booking for Friends of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is open now. Appropriately, public booking for Young Hearts opens a month from today on Valentine's Day. How sweet.
