An Interview With Cassidy Freeman (Tess, Smallville)

Thursday January 15, 2009
When we learned that Lex Luthor (a.k.a. Michael Rosenbaum) was leaving Smallville, many of us worried that the show might be hard-pressed to produce another nemesis for Clark who would be equally as compelling.

As season eight approached, we learned that the man of steel would get not one, but two dangerous characters to keep him busy. While Doomsday keeps Clark busy in a physical sense, Tess Mercer is proving a challenge to him in many other ways as she digs deep into his darkest secrets.

I had the opportunity to speak with the very lovely, outgoing and highly-likable Cassidy Freeman about her new role on the hit CW show and how she got involved in acting. Is she anything like her character on Smallville? Read on to get better acquainted with this talented actress.... Photo: Michael Courtney/The CW © The CW Network, LLC. All Rights Reserved.

Canceled: Prison Break

Tuesday January 13, 2009
Did anyone else hear that crack? That would be the sound of my heart breaking after getting the news from Fox that Prison Break is coming to an end this spring.

Each season, Prison Break viewership has taken a noticeable nose dive, so I guess I really shouldn't be completely thrown off-guard by this news. I had held out hope that if Fox would just pair it with 24 again on Monday nights, the ratings would improve. I had even hoped that since Stephen King was such a big fan, perhaps that might carry some weight. No such luck folks.

To add insult to injury, Fox has sent the convicts to death row on Friday nights beginning April 17, where the remaining episodes will air until the bitter end. Fox didn't indicate whether or not the series finale would wrap up the lingering storylines. How would you like to see the series end? Do you think the brothers will live happily ever after and finally open up that shop on the beach? ©2008 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Florian Schneider

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Sunday January 11, 2009
As was the case with Fox's 24, last year's Golden Globes also fell victim to the writers' strike. The Emmy Award might be considered the highest honor in all of TV Land, but the Golden Globes tend to offer a bigger variety of nominations (and wins) for actors and shows that might be overlooked by the Emmy voters.

Without a traditional host, viewers were treated to an incredible array of film and television stars who paired up as presenters for the event. The Golden Globes is the perfect merge between the big screen and small screen -- Seeing movie icons such as Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise share the night and mingle with television stars like Hayden Panettiere and Julie Benz is why I truly love this particular awards ceremony.

24 Returns!

Sunday January 11, 2009
Jack is back, but is he better than ever? After almost two agonizing years without 24, the series returns tonight for another season of that heart-pumping, edge of your seat action we've come to know and love over the years.

I missed the first two seasons of 24 and it wasn't until a good friend convinced me to watch season two on DVD that I became a fan. I began the first hour on a Friday night and didn't stop until the final credits rolled on the twenty-fourth episode. I got some rest and then headed to my local Blockbuster to rent season one and spent the next twenty-four hours immersed in Jack Bauer's world. This late bloomer became a dedicated fan and has watched every season since that crazy weekend!

I think many would agree that season six wasn't exactly as gripping as the previous years, so when we learned that season seven would be postponed another year due to the writers' strike, I almost felt a sense of relief. Now, almost two years later, I am thrilled to let Jack and the rest of the gang back into my living room each week. After viewing the first 4 hours of the new season, I can promise all of you skeptical fans that Jack is back and indeed ready to remind fans why we fell in love with this series so many years ago.

A Little Preview of the New Season
I don't want to give too much away, or Fox may very well send Jack after me (I believe the action figure I received may very well be a former CTU spy), so here are some important details that won't spoil the premiere for anyone....
  • Tony Almeida returns from the dead. Yes, we did see him die in Jack's arms, but there is a perfectly good explanation as to why and how he survived. The "why" is a key factor.
  • CTU is gone.
  • Jack will stand trial for the way he has handled the questioning of many suspects over the years. I guess the government isn't taking kindly to Jack's very special methods.
  • Chloe has competition in the resident geek department in the form of FBI Agent Janis Gold (played by Janeane Garofalo).
  • The FBI is heavily involved in the first 4 hours. One of the agents assigned to Jack seems to have incredibly chemistry with him -- could she possibly be a love interest down the line?
  • Bill and Chloe are still working together, but not for CTU. What they are doing together sets the stage for the season.
  • The words "deep sky" will lead to a shocking discovery.
  • Kim Bauer will return this season (but not in the first 4 hours).
Stay tuned for another thrill ride chock full of twists and turns this season on 24.
