WESTFORD - Sonus Networks Inc. yesterday said it would cut an additional 60 jobs, or about 6 percent of its workforce. The Westford company expects to record about $1.3 million to $1.6 million in restructuring charges related to the job cuts. The pretax charges, which cover severance and other related costs, will be booked in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.
Sonus, which makes Internet network hardware and software, has been shedding jobs in recent months as part of its restructuring efforts.
The company cut 40 jobs, or about 4 percent of its workforce, in January. It had cut 50 jobs in December and said the company may take additional action in the future.
The most recent job cuts are expected to generate about $5.8 million to $6.3 million in annual compensation-related cash savings. The company expects to complete the job cuts during the first quarter.
