Music

The Music Program at Georgetown offers a wide range of academic courses (music history, arts journalism, music theory, composition, audio technology) and performance opportunities. We specialize in all forms of music associated with American Culture, including: jazz, rock, hip-hop, dance, film, popular musics from around the world and music stemming from the Western European Tradition (from the 17th century to the present). Performance groups include the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Music Ensembles, Pep Band,  Georgetown Jazz Band, Jazz Combos, and Guild of Bands (a consortium of student rock bands), all of which  are eligible for academic credit.

The DPA also sponsors four student-directed a cappella groups: Grace Notes, Harmony, Phantoms, and Saxatones, as well as the World Percussion Ensemble.

Through this broad range of course offerings and community-building music performing activities, the Music Program embraces the intellectual, multicultural and international character of the liberal arts at Georgetown.
