Stained Glass Bluegrass
About Stained Glass Bluegrass
Sun. 6 a.m. ET, Tues. 9 p.m. ET,Bob Webster became the host of Stained Glass Bluegrass on Sunday, September 23, 2007. Bob is not a new personality to the faithful listeners of the bluegrass gospel show, since he’s shared the microphone with Red Shipley, the past host of 25 years, since January 2007. Red Shipley retired after his final show of September 16th and left this Earthly world on October 6, 2007.
In keeping with the celebration of 40 years of bluegrass on WAMU, Bob plans to “Move the Tradition Forward” by expanding the foundation set by his two predecessors. He’ll be presenting your favorite bluegrass gospel numbers in the professional and dignified manner they deserve. In addition to classics by Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Reno & Smiley, and the Stanley Brothers, you’l hear close harmonies by such groups as the Isaacs, the Osborne Brothers, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, III Tyme Out, Rhonda Vincent, Dale Ann Bradley, and others representing a wide spectrum of bluegrass artists and new talent. Occasionally there will be short interviews with artists sharing the meaning and personal connections they get from bluegrass gospel music.
Bluegrass arrangements of old hymns have also become a recent popular addition to the show’s format, introduced by Bob over the summer of 2007. Many listeners will recognize the old songs they grew up with and younger listeners will get to hear hymns they may have missed along the way. It’s sure to provide an inspirational start to your Sunday morning and provide a brief respite from the stresses and strains today’s modern life.
Bluegrass fans have enjoyed these Sunday morning gospel sounds since 1974. Original host Gary Henderson passed the microphone to Red in late summer, 1982. Red expanded the audience and it spread world-wide with the launching of Bluegrass Country 2001. Bob worked with Red since 2002 in producing the show.
Over the years we have heard from listeners from just about all faiths and those who somehow relate to or simply enjoy the harmonies, the melodies, or the instrumentation and rhythm of this music. Bob invites you to join him live on Sunday mornings and become a part of the Stained Glass Bluegrass family.
