On 27 January, the Executive Board of the Riksbank decided to make certain changes in the regulations governing the redemption of notes and coins that can not be used in the shops. This is in order to make the regulations clearer and more in line with the Riksbank's practice.
The changes, which will apply from and including 1 March, mean in brief that:
- The Riksbank will redeem damaged and mutilated notes unless the Riksbank believes there is reason to assume that they have been subject to crime, for example security transport robberies.
The Riksbank will redeem the notes:
- For the full amount if at least two-thirds of the entire banknote remains intact, or
- for half the amount if less than two-thirds, but more than one-third, of the entire banknote remains intact.
The remains of the note must be in one piece.
- The Riksbank will redeem notes that are no longer valid unless the Riksbank believes there is reason to assume that they have been subject to crime.
