50-öre coin to be abolished in 2010

DATE 25/03/2009

On 30 September 2010 the 50-öre coin will cease to be legal tender. This was decided by the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament, on 25 March following a proposal from the Riksbank.

At the same time the act on rounding off certain amounts in öre (SFS 1970:1029) will be amended. The amendment will entail amounts in öre ending in one up to forty-nine being rounded down and amounts from fifty up to ninety-nine being rounded up.

The abolition of the 50-öre coin is part of the review of the Swedish banknote and coin series that is being carried out by the Riksbank. More information about the project is available under the link below.
