The Open Society Institute is committed to safeguarding your privacy. All OSI-affiliated websites adhere to a rigid policy for ensuring the privacy of any personally identifiable information (name, mailing address, email address, occupation, etc.) that may be collected though our websites, at www.soros.org​.
Collecting Information
OSI gathers email addresses from users who (1) contact OSI for general information purposes or (2) subscribe to our electronic mailing lists for newsletters and other publications. We may also collect other personal information, including mailing address and occupation, from users who choose to send such information by email.
The OSI website, at www.soros.org​, will only collect personally identifiable information from you if you voluntarily supply it. OSI is the sole owner of and the only organization that uses the information collected on this website.
OSI uses PayPal to process online donations to OSI. Any personally identifiable information you submit to PayPal (including your name, postal address, email address, telephone number, credit card number, and banking account number) to make an online donation to OSI will be used by PayPal to process your transaction and generate an email receipt, and is further subject to PayPal’s privacy policy. You can read PayPal’s privacy policy, including information concerning PayPal’s use of cookies and security measures, and how it may use or share your information, by clicking here. We do not control PayPal’s privacy policy and practices. OSI will receive certain personally identifiable information about you (including your name, billing address, email address, and telephone number, but not your credit card number or banking account number) when you choose to make an online donation to OSI through PayPal. OSI will use this information only to produce and send you an acknowledgement letter.
We do not sell or rent personally identifiable information, and we may disclose it only under the following limited circumstances. Subject to the following sentences, OSI will not disclose personally identifiable information without first receiving your permission. OSI may disclose information about its users and donors if required to do so by law or in its good-faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process. OSI may also disclose information about its users and donors to law enforcement officers or others, in its good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to: enforce our Terms & Conditions; respond to claims that any posting or other content violates the rights of third-parties; or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of, as appropriate, OSI, its users and donors, or the general public.
Tracking and Cookies
OSI collects non-personal information (IP addresses and login information, for example) from visitors to help us understand how our site is being used. Like most websites, the OSI site may place a "cookie," or small file, in the browser of a visitor's computer. This cookie will assign a user a unique number that allows OSI to save information so that the information does not need to be re-entered. At no time will this cookie reveal to others any information whatsoever.
