Los Angeles Business from bizjournals

Gasoline prices continued to climb this week throughout Southern California, ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

According to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch, the average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.573 per gallon, which is 11.9 cents more than last week, 24.5 cents higher than last month, and $1.369 less than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.638, up 11.4 cents from last week, 21 cents above last month, and $1.443 below last year.

In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $2.57, which is 12 cents more than last week, 24.9 cents more than last month, and $1.381 less than last year.

“Investors and traders continue to drive this market upward based on the anticipation that demand domestically and globally will increase in the coming months. However, industry analysts indicate that consumer demand remains relatively flat and supply is still good. We’ll have to see if this increase will continue through the summer,” Auto Club Spokesperson Jeffrey Spring said in a statement.
