British Council Parliamentary Affairs

Derek Wyatt MP

The British Council Associate Parliamentary Group officers are MPs and Peers who work closely with us to keep their colleagues in Westminster up to date on the work of the British Council and to support us in our aims.

Following our AGM on 18 June 2008 the following officers were elected:

Derek Wyatt MP - Chair of the British Council All Party Parliamentary Group

Derek Wyatt first hit prominence as a rugby player who played for both Bath and England during the 1970s. Having subsequently worked in publishing, he later became a highly paid director of the Computer Channel at Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB. He was elected to Parliament in 1997. In April 2002, Mr Wyatt was appointed by Sports Minister Richard Caborn as his adviser on Rugby Union. Derek has been a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee since 1997.
