Faculty of Languages & Linguistics

Endless possibilities in a globally-connected world

“I chose Georgetown because of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics and its opportunities for international education.  My year split between Florence and Seville continues to be the most formative experience of my life.”
—Ribby Goodfellow, College ’04 (Spanish)

Language students in Georgetown College are educated to embrace the complexities of our world. The Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL) embodies Georgetown's long tradition of fostering international understanding and the serious study of foreign languages and cultures.

Seven modern foreign language departments, the Department of Linguistics, the Department of Classics, and the program in Comparative Literature constitute the FLL:

More than one-quarter of students in the College either major or minor in a foreign language or linguistics. Many choose to combine language with another major or minor; such combinations include Arabic and Government, Chinese and Business, German and Philosophy, or Russian and History.  The possibilities are endless.

FLL students develop language skills and acquire cultural education, empowering them to transcend international barriers. Accomplished graduates of the FLL have a world of endless opportunities and possibilities open to them.
