Application and general guidelines for students in Georgetown College

To be eligible for transfer, course work must be at an accredited college, accepted towards degrees of that institution, and presented on that institution's official transcript.

Distance-learning courses are not transferrable. Rising juniors and seniors should attend a four-year institution, and propose upper-division course work

Credits will be evaluated using classroom hours and the session calendar. A 3-credit course typically meets 40 hours in a five-week session. Summer sessions of fewer than 5 weeks are given special scrutiny. Students are asked to provide contact-hour information below to address differences in institutional structures (quarter systems, for example).

All courses must be taken for a letter grade (e.g. not pass/fail or audit), and a grade of C or better is required for transfer. However, grades for courses taken during non-Georgetown summer school will not appear on the Georgetown transcript and are not computed in the Georgetown grade point average.

A maximum of four non-Georgetown summer courses may be transferred to the Georgetown record.

Transfer students cannot exceed a total of 60 credits from outside Georgetown.

Summer study is normally granted to students who have fallen behind in credits and/or students pursuing free elective or enrichment course work. Students are expected to fulfill general education requirements at Georgetown.

All language credit at the language-learning level is subject to the results of a department-administered placement exam upon return.

After completing the course, students must ask the summer college or university to send an official transcript to Georgetown:

To request approval for a non-Georgetown summer school course, please complete and return the Non-Georgetown Summer School Application (also available in the Georgetown College Dean's Office, WGR 108 and ICC 303).

Students who are not on campus may mail or fax their applications to the College Dean's Office.

Please note that these guidelines may apply only to College students. Students in the McDonough School of Business, Walsh School of Foreign Service, and the School of Nursing should check with their respective dean's offices for their policies.
