Department of Information and Computer Science

The Department of Information and Computer Science was established on 1 January 2008 and comprises two former TKK laboratories: the Laboratory of Computer and Information Science and the Laboratory for Theoretical Computer Science. The department belongs to the Faculty of Information and Natural Sciences.

The focus of the department's research and teaching activity is on advanced computational methods for modelling, analysing, and solving complex tasks in technology and science. The research aims at the development of fundamental computer science methods for the analysis of large and high-dimensional data sets, and for the modelling and design of complex software, networking and other computational systems.

The department hosts two national Centres of Excellence: the Adaptive Informatics Research Centre and part of the Algorithmic Data Analysis Research Centre.

Advanced education for international students is provided by the department's three Master's Programmes in Bioinformatics, Foundations of Advanced Computing and Machine Learning and Data Mining.
