The History Department is offering a new course in Fall 2009 designed especially for first-year students with interest and advanced placement credit in history. The course - HIST 186: First-Year Seminar: Socialism - offers first-year students a rare opportunity to take a small seminar course expressly designed for them, and is taught by one of the most senior and recognized members of our Faculty, Professor Michael Kazin. The Computer Science Department is offering a new course which will help students develop visual applications. COSC 013: Intro to Visual Java is a new non-major computer science course that would complete half of the math/science general education requirement. Please find a course description here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Has Georgetown received my Advanced Placement scores?
A: In mid to late July, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will send a letter to all students for whom Georgetown has received AP score reports. If you do not receive this letter, please call ETS at 1-888-CALL-4-AP to have your score reports sent to Georgetown. If you have a copy of your score report at home, you may also mail it, fax it, or bring it in person to the College Dean’s office in 303 Intercultural Center. Our fax number is 202-687-5712.
Q: What type of credit will I receive for my Advanced Placement scores?
A: In most cases, Georgetown awards exemption and/or credit for scores of 4 and 5 on Advanced Placement exams. Awards differ based on subject and major. Please do not register for a course if you anticipate that you will receive AP credit for that course. If you take a course at Georgetown for which Advanced Placement credit has been received, you will lose the AP credit previously awarded for that course. Q: Is preregistration first-come, first-served?
A: No; you may log in to MyAccess and preregister for courses anytime before the preregistration deadline of Friday, July 24. You are encouraged to register earlier than the deadline, however, in case the deans have questions about your course requests.
Q: What should I do if I have problems with my NetID?
A: A NetID is required to log in to MyAccess and your Georgetown email account. Your NetID and password were mailed to you from the Registrar’s Office. If you have questions about your NetID or have forgotten your password, please refer to http://netid.georgetown.edu/.
Q: What is a Peer Advisor?
A: Peer Advisors are sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the College who can answer many of the questions you might have during the preregistration process. Your Peer Advisor will call or email you, but if you do not hear from him/her within two week of receiving your preregistration mailing, please go ahead and make the first contact.
Q: I took a course at a university while I was in high school. Can I receive Georgetown credit for the course?
A: Please complete the Supplemental Information Form. The form will prompt us to search your file for a transcript, and we will follow through if we need more information to post credit.
