A dialogue of depth and dimension
To be a part of the academic experience at Georgetown College is to join a dialogue of depth and dimension.
Students in the College may choose one major on which to focus, or may double major, double major with a minor, or even major in one field with two minors. A minor is not required but it can add depth to your studies and allow you to pursue additional interests.
In the first two years, students in the College choose from a variety of courses to fulfill general education requirements in history, literature and writing, math, philosophy, theology, science, and social science. During their second year, students begin to construct their academic programs from more than 30 majors, 40 minors, and 8 certificate programs. The depth and dimension of these programs is broad: there are more than 100,000 different combinations of majors, double-majors, and minors possible in the College.
Opportunities for undergraduate research characterize Georgetown’s science departments (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology) and new majors in Anthropology and Political Economy, as well as the Social Justice Analysis focus within Sociology, are recent additions to the College curriculum. New faculty appointments in Music, Theater, and Physics reflect the recent growth of these program areas.
Unique to Georgetown College is the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL), an internationally-focused liberal arts program which builds students’ understanding of other nations through intensive study of culture, literature, and language, with a particular emphasis on linguistic form, style, and usage.
