About the Forum

The Forum is the association for graduate students and alumni of the Democracy and Governance M.A. program at Georgetown University. Its mission is to enhance knowledge of the theory and practice of democracy promotion, democratization and transitions between autocracy and democracy. The Forum aspires to be a nexus of communication between the academic and professional worlds.

To meet these ends, the Forum hosts periodic professional and social events including panel discussions, conferences, career-building sessions and get-togethers in the DC area. It also runs a weblog called The Democratic Piece.

The Democratic Piece was established in 2007 as an instrument of the organization's mission. Its title is a play on words derived from democratic peace theory. The Forum offers this interactive site as a resource for those interested in democratic theory, current events, political change, and democracy promotion.
