The Kosovo Foundation for Open Society works to strengthen government institutions and to further develop an open society within Kosovo. Its programs focus on the rights of minorities, civic participation, European integration, governance, and education.
As Kosovo embarks on creating an independent state, the foundation has been at the forefront of efforts to bring its policies in line with European standards. It has led a coalition of civil society organizations working to ensure clean and transparent government through monitoring activities and promoting recommendations for preventing corruption.
The foundation’s School for European Integration has helped train Kosovar policymakers and activists for participation in EU policymaking procedures by organizing seminars, lectures, debates, and study visits. Its hundreds of alumni consist of journalists, police officers, government administrators, political party staff, business community leaders, civil society activists, and members of local and international organizations. The school brings European and national experts to lecture on EU history and policies, the EU’s role in global affairs, and the enlargement process.
The foundation has also been a leading advocate for Kosovo within the EU and the larger international community, helping secure billions of dollars in development assistance, including a large grant dedicated to creating a three-year national integration strategy for Kosovo’s Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities.
