The Grace of Mary Traverse

Theater & Performance Studies Program Director
Professor Maya E. Roth directs the DC premiere of The Grace of Mary Traverse by Timberlake Wertenbaker, running April 8-17 in the
Davis Performing Arts Center's Gonda Theatre.

A boldly inventive historical drama which resonates powerfully with contemporary life, The Grace of Mary Traverse chronicles a young woman’s Faustian quest for identity, power, and grace. Internationally acclaimed British playwright and recent GU Visiting Faculty member Timberlake Wertenbaker (Our Country's Good, Love of the Nightingale) returns to Georgetown's campus for the area premiere of this award-winning work, celebrating its 25th anniversary.  Tickets are available now.

Friday Music Series

The free Friday Music Series continues on March 19, 2010 at 1:15 p.m. in McNeir Hall.  The Washington National Opera Orchestra's Assistant concertmaster Yvonne Lam and principal clarinetist David Jones team up with pianist Wenyin Chan.  Their program features Béla Bartók’s Contrasts, a work written for Benny Goodman and Joseph Szigeti that melds the folk traditions for which Bartok is well-known with American jazz culture, and Darius Milhaud’s Suite for violin, clarinet, and piano.

Rescheduled from its original Feb. 5 concert date due to the winter storm, Apex Winds will now perform on Friday, May 7 at 1:15 p.m. in McNeir Hall.  Comprised of members of the US Marine Band, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and the Richmond Symphony, the ensemble will perform La Cenerentola by Giacomo Rossini, arr. Willett; Quintette No. 1 by Jean Françaix; and Quintet by August Klughardt, Op. 79.
