Q. What's your favorite book?
A. I have to spend most of my time researching or preparing classes, but I often listen to audiobooks while I work. A book I've read through several times in the past  and plan to listen to again soon as an audiobook is "The Talisman," by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

Q. If you could watch a Japanese film with any actor or celebrity, who would it be and why?
A. It would be Martin Scorsese. Scorsese is perhaps the greatest living American director. He also knows a lot about Japanese films, and even had a part in one of Kurosawa's later films.

Q. What do you love most about Washington, DC?
A. The art museums down on the Mall, especially the National Gallery, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Freer-Sackler Gallery. They're all in one place, so you can easily visit them all in one afternoon. And they have many world-class masterpieces, I've visited galleries in other cities and countries, but these three are unique.

Q. What was the last song you listened to on your iPod?
A. I just listened to a classic recording of Glenn Gould playing Bach's Goldberg Variations, via iTunes. In my opinion Glenn Gould's recording of this is still the very best one. With digital sound, now I can even hear Gould humming along as he plays.
