The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon stated his hope that Israel would withdraw from the divided village of Ghajar. An Israeli official stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu favored such a withdrawal.

The UN declared that if Israel is shown to have operated spy networks in Lebanon, that this would represent a “Serious violation” of Lebanon’s sovereignty. 68 suspects have been charged with spying for Israel.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, at the G8 Summit, applauded Syria’s relations with Lebanon, saying that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has “kept the commitments” he had promised.
