Summer internship at Sveriges Riksbank for PhD Students

Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, invites applications for our summer program for graduate students. The selected four summer interns will spend a period from mid-June to the end of August 2009 with the Research Division at the Riksbank. The exact dates are negotiable. The monthly salary offered is SEK 16,000. It should be noted that the Riksbank will not cover travel, or housing expenses during the internship.

The Riksbank monitors and analyses economic developments in Sweden and abroad in order to produce reports and work out proposals for policy measures. The research division undertakes research into issues and methods relevant to the Riksbank’s policy activities, including both financial stability and monetary policy analysis, and provides support to the policy departments in their development work.

The purpose of the summer programme is to encourage graduate students to pursue analysis and research into issues relevant to the Riksbank. It is therefore suitable for students who have finished the course part in their Ph.D. program and are now well-into working on their dissertations. Students are expected to work on their projects throughout summer and present their achievements in a seminar towards the end of their stay.

Participants in the program will receive insight into the practical conduct of central bank policy, and benefit from interaction with Riksbank staff in general and the research staff in particular. This will hopefully lead to the students becoming aware of relevant policy and research issues, which can result in future, fruitful dissertation projects. However, the summer program entails no undertaking from the Riksbank regarding future employment for the interns.

  • Applications can be sent electronically to: registratorn@riksbank.se

  • Provide the reference number 09-09 in the subject field.

Applications should arrive no later than March 27, 2009. An application should include a curriculum vitae, a document from the university department listing completed courses in the Ph.D. program, one letter of recommendation from a supervisor or other person at the department familiar with the applicant’s studies, as well as a brief description of a summer internship project. One (1) written paper/essay would also be of merit.

Further information on the summer programme can be obtained from Tor Jacobson, tel. +46-8-787 0697, or tor.jacobson@riksbank.se.

Sincerely,
