Although the Iraqiya alliance, headed by Iyad Allawi, won most seats in Iraq's election, Muqtada Sadr's party has hinted that it may merge with Nuri al-Maliki's State of Law party to form a government. But Mr Maliki may not keep his position as prime minister.

 

Mohamed ElBaradei, who has hinted he may stand in Egypt's next presidential elections, has released a video on Facebook calling for reform and urging people to join his newly formed group, National Association for Change.

 

An Iranian diplomat seized by gunmen in Pakistan in 2008 has been freed after "complex intelligence operations" according to Iranian state television.
