How much is the environment worth to you? Treebay to auction off beloved state parks and animals

If you haven’t heard how bad the economy has hit the state’s environment budget, you’ll probably notice it this spring and summer with staff cuts at parks and campgrounds. Over the last decade, environmental funding has dropped 44% when adjusted for inflation, according to the Environmental League of Massachusetts.

But now is your chance to help. Today, Treebay launched an online website www.massenvironmentforsale.com to auction off state environmental resources the state can no longer afford to maintain. Ashland State Park is being auctioned for $804,000. Piping plover chicks – just in time for Easter - are being sold for $200 each. There have even been 40 bids for the Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Plymouth – valued at $3 million.

“It is a shame that the state budget has come to this,” said Megan Amundson, Political Director of the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters. “But personally, I’ve had my eye on Revere Beach for a while now. I’m hoping that shows up on the auction block soon. It’s just miserable having to share such a small span of sand with so many people each summer.”
