Comments of the Moment

“ If a tax were placed on on soda in my state, it would not get me to stop drinking soda. The change has to come from a personal desire not legislation.”

Should Sugary Drinks Be Taxed?
“ I think the reason the trend has stayed with us so long is just because of peer pressure. Boys all want to fit in, so they copy what they think is cool instead of thinking about how stupid they look. ”

Do 'Saggy Pants' Mean Disrespect?
“ When the sagging becomes to the point where there is indecent exposure, then it is perfectly acceptable to take action (a fine). Otherwise no has the right to force people what to wear and how to wear it. ”

Do 'Saggy Pants' Mean Disrespect?
“ If people want to look ridiculous, it is their own business, but ridiculous it looks nevertheless. If people would just have an original idea once in a while it would show me something, but it seems it is "moneky see, monkey do" and then they believe they are special. Not just their pants are sagging, but their brains, and that worries me more.”
— Sehtare

Do 'Saggy Pants' Mean Disrespect?
“ My name is Trinity. I'm a junior in HS. I have been bullied almost my entire life, and have even contemplate suicide. I have never attempted it, nor have I thought about it in over two years. I got help just in time. The only thing that kept me here was telling myself that they were just angry kids. They were hurting just as much, if not more, than me...To the adults of bullied children that have commented on here: Do something. Don't just sit back and tell yourself that it will go away, it won't. It will just get worse. So do something to put an end to it before it's too late.”
— Trinity

“ If school, an institution designed to educate the young, decides to discriminate the rights of a group of its students due to their identities, then they are basically teaching the rest of the student body that its OK to discriminate others. ”

Should a Gay Teen Be Allowed to Take a Date to the Prom?
“ Gay couples should be free to attend dances, but they should consider what types of people are going and be forewarned that not everyone may act maturely. ”
— Cathlyn L.
Should a Gay Teen Be Allowed to Take a Date to the Prom?
“ Has anyone considered that all of the mean-spirited 'reality programs' on televisions are teaching young people that the way to 'win' is to form a loose coalition and gang up on one person or another? ”

Why Are Women Underrepresented in Science and Math Fields?
“ I like to follow several fashion, travel, and design blogs. Some of these include Gadling, The Sartorialist, Oh Joy!, Garance Dore, Jak & Jil, and The Lost Girls. Blogs are different than newspapers/magazines because it feels like they put up less of a front and are more real. There is less of a disconnect between the author and the content on blogs. In newspapers/magazines the focus is on the articles and the information.”
— Brooke
Which Blogs and Bloggers Do You Read?
“ The first step is to get rid of the term "bullying" and replace it with "harassment." Bullying is an outdated term and does not carry the same legal consequences as "harassment" does. The Business world for example has zero tolerance for harassment in the work place and so should our schools. Schools need to start to replace the term "bullying" with "harassment" at all levels, in all policy manuals, educational materials, code of conduct references, etc.”
— Curt
What Can Be Done to Stop Bullying?
“ I almost think we have to come up with new vocabulary to discuss events like this. When people think "bullying", they associate it with "kids being kids". In poor Phoebe's case, she was not bullied. She was slandered, physically assaulted, abused physically and emotionally and driven to suicide. Maybe if we start using some harsher language to describe these events, they'll get more attention. ”
