Campers leave a mountain of trash
Image by Ray Senio at SnowandMud.com
At this time where people use the actions of few to categorize an entire group it's nice to see stories where ATVers go out of their way to clean up after irresponsible campers. A few members of SnowandMud.com did just that.
Some ATVers recently went out riding near the Rocky Mountain House South Fork area and came across an abandoned trash-pile that was once a camping spot.
Everything was left behind, seemingly without a care for someone else to clean up. Some may argue that the campers may have been chased off by a bear, or got out there and realized they were in over their heads and left. But still, they could have/should have made an effort to at least let someone know. Or better yet, go back and clean up their trash!
As luck would have it a couple of people in the group that found this disgusting mess went back the next day with a truck, trash bags, rakes and shovels to clean it all up.
They drove for 4 hours to clean up this mess that belonged to someone else. Great job guys! Lets hope some of the eco-groups that try to label us offroaders as destructive will take notice of your efforts.

Riding ATVs in the Sand
Image by Matt Finley, Licensed to About.com
As another great summer comes to a close tens of thousands of people get ready to head to Glamis for Halloween. This is a good time to review a few of the basic ATV and offroading safety tips that can go a long way in helping you have a fun, safe ATV ride.
First of all, if you're riding with children, make sure they're riding the right size of ATV for their age, size and ability. The kids should also be wearing all the right ATV safety equipment, like a helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and long sleeved shirts and pants. In many states you have to get them (and yourself) some kind of training like at the ATV Safety Institute
Here's a quick check-list of safety concerns for ATVs
- Wear safety gear
- Ride the right sized ATV
- Don't ride on roads, streets and highways
- Don't ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Don't carry passengers
- Supervise younger riders
Keep these tips in mind as you get ready to go out riding this Halloween!

Sneak Peak at the 2011 Yamaha Raptor 125 ATV

Recently we took a trip up to Ventura, Ca to hop on the all new Yamaha Raptor 125 ATV. It's a fun little quad that has a serious side that begs to be unleashed.
The Raptor 125 is built specifically for kids (16 and older) who are transitioning from the 90cc quads up to a real quad.
It used to be when a kid was ready to move on to bigger and better things it was a transition that lead straight to a 250cc sport quad. That was more than some kids were ready for if all they've ridden is a 90cc kids' quad.
The Raptor 125 shortens that gap but it still provides a great ride that even professional racers can (and do) enjoy.
