Features: Stars in search

Stars let you quickly and easily bookmark your favorite web content across a number of Google products. Customize your Google Web Search results by clicking the star icon next to any search result's title. When you're signed in to your Google Account, you'll see your starred results whenever you do the same or similar searches.

Stars in search work across a variety of Google search products. That means when you star something in Maps (like a local business listing), it can also appear in the "Starred results" on a relevant Google search results page. Starred results also sync with your Google Bookmarks, which is available in the Google Toolbar and at google.com/bookmarks.

How to use stars

  • Star a result
Like a certain search result? Click the Star icon icon next to any Google search result to save it to your Google Bookmarks. Make sure that you're signed in to your Google Account.

  • See your starred results
The next time you perform a search where a starred page is relevant, a "Starred results" section at the top of the results page will show the relevant results that you've starred in the past. You can also see a full list of your starred results by visiting Google Bookmarks at google.com/bookmarks.

  • Remove a star
To remove a bookmark, click the yellow star next to the result's title.

Your bookmarks are associated with your Google Account, so they affect only your own search results.

Learn more about stars

Do I have to be signed in to star a result?

Yes. To see the changes you've made to a given search result the next time you do that search, you must be signed in to your Google Account. If you aren't signed in, you'll simply see standard, unmodified Google Web Search results.

Who can see my bookmarks?

Your starred results and their corresponding bookmarks can be viewed only by you. You can access your bookmarks at www.google.com/bookmarks.

Does starring a result change its ranking in search results?

Your starred results are associated with your Google Account, so they only affect how your personal search results appear. By starring a result, its search ranking will not change, even though you may see it appear at the top of the page in the "Starred results" section.
