Quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy picked in second round of 2010 NFL draft

The red carpet that received prospects outside Radio City Music Hall on the first evening of the NFL draft was rolled up and removed by the time the second round started Friday night, but two marquee names remained on teams' draft boards inside.
Quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame and Colt McCoy, the Texas slinger who recorded the most wins in NCAA history, had to wait longer than either expected heading into the selection process. Neither made the trip to New York, choosing instead to have his fate unfurl while with family at his respective home.
Clausen's wait ended at No. 48 overall when the Carolina Panthers added him to their depleted depth chart to pair with receiver Steve Smith in an offense that fits his skills. McCoy did not receive his call until the Cleveland Browns took him at No. 85.
While the quarterbacks faced questions, defensive backs were en vogue. The Vikings, thought to be in the QB market, chose Virginia defensive back Chris Cook in the No. 34 slot.Taylor Mays, an aggressive 6-3 safety from USC, became the 10th DB chosen when the 49ers drafted him at No. 49.
McCoy's fall from potential first-round pick to late third-round selection ended with seven Browns fans chanting, "We want Colt! We want Colt!"
Texas coach Mack Brown, in town doing television work for the NFL Network, then stepped on stage to announce that his former star would be going to Cleveland. Throughout the course of the second and third rounds, McCoy said the waiting was stressful, and that he kept busy by walking around.
"In the end, I am where I'm supposed to be," McCoy said.
