Bureau of Financial Management and Policy

The Bureau of Financial Management and Policy (FMP) provides the financial and management support demanded by today's foreign policy requirements at home and abroad. The Assistant Secretary for the FMP Bureau, Bert T. Edwards, also serves as the State Department's Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The bureau is responsible for developing and maintaining the Department's financial management policy and systems as well as the development, oversight, and enhancement of its financial management infrastructure. This includes support for the Department and its 23,000 employees in the operation and management of 256 diplomatic missions overseas, 40 domestic missions, and 12,000 properties worldwide as well as the issuance of 13 million visas and passports per year.
