Help from the Waiver Wire

Wednesday September 30, 2009

With injuries piling up and the first bye week upon us, many of you are looking for help filling holes in your fantasy rosters. Depending on the size of your league, some or all of the players below may be available to help you out for a game or two, and perhaps even the long run.

Quarterback

Derek Anderson - A great fantasy option a couple years ago, Anderson has struggled since. He has regained his starting job for now, and perhaps he will re-establish himself as a legitimate fantasy option. Might be worth taking a risk on.

Shaun Hill - He may not look pretty doing it, but Hill gets the job done. He's not going to carry your team, but he might get you through your starting quarterback's bye week.

Running Back

LeSean McCoy - He's on a bye himself so don't count on him this week. Considering Brian Westbrook's durability issues, though, McCoy could pay big dividends as the season unfolds. Read more...

What is the Wildcat Offense?

Saturday September 26, 2009

In honor of these blunderers, About Football has put together a collection of the more comical quips to escape the lips of college and pro football players, as well as coaches and announcers alike over the years. Read more...

Butkus Talks About Steroid Issues Among Teens

Monday September 21, 2009

The use of steroids and other performance-enhancing substances has become a huge issue for most sports over the last decade, especially at the professional and collegiate levels where athletes seem to get bigger, faster, and stronger every year. Making matters worse, the problem has trickled down to the high school level where it is estimated hundreds of thousands of teens have at least experimented with the drugs, and surprisingly nearly one fourth of those are girls.

Traditionally, that side of the problem has not been publicized with as much voracity and frequency as has the effect these substances have had on professional sports organizations like the NFL and Major League Baseball.

Fortunately there are current and former NFL players who have taken an interest in the issue and are trying to bring some attention to the problem. Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus is one of those people, doing his part through his "I Play Clean" Campaign. Read more...
